Marathon Bloggers: Charlotte, 1 week to go!

There have been rages, potato waffles and lots of ice cream but no tears… yet. Charlotte is deferring her London marathon place.Name: Charlotte Thomas
Age: 35
Marathon History: Brighton Marathon 2012, 3.46
Goal: sub 3.45

In the words of Duncan Bannatyne from Dragon’s Den. I’m out. Gutted.

:( :( :( :( :( :(

When I still couldn’t run across the road properly last weekend I decided, I’m not going to enjoy this race, I haven’t run for a month,It’s going to hurt, I’m not going to do a good time, I could do more damage… for once be sensible and defer till next year.

I felt like such a quitter (I hate quitting) but I thought I was ok about it, after all it’s only a race. Then I realised I’d hardly left the house for three days, couldn’t be arsed to get dressed and was eating vats of ice cream and potato waffles (not together, I’m not a sicko). Hmm, maybe dropping out bothered me more than I thought.

How very 80s of me

Well, everyone needs to wallow now and again. Thanks to the power of Twitter I’ve secured a place in Edinburgh marathon at the end of May and I’m going to use the intervening weeks to get kick ass fit (or at least able to run more than a mile). My rehab exercises are starting to get easier, it won’t be long now till I can try a short run. Yay! I’m going to start eating clean and maybe even give up the booze – all from Monday of course, always Monday.

So seeing as I’ll be swapping the energy gels for white wine on Sunday (I’ll be on Narrow Street from 10 am, I’ll give you all a whoop) I’d like to dedicate this blog to everyone I know running the marathon: Jen Corbett, Adel Whitworth, Lorna Mann, Jo Berry, Well Heeled Runner, Cat Simpson (Diaries of a Marathon Widow), Carla Halls, Casey Weller, Nickie Joy, Sarah Baker and all the rest of you. Wishing you all massive PBs, come and join me in the pub when you’ve finished!

And for those of you who are running, my top race day tip is take a spare pair of trainers or flip flops – when you’ve finished you will want those runners off your feet immediately!

Have an amazing time guys, enjoy, and I’ll try not to feel too jealous 🙁
