South Londoners, it’s time to dig out your sparkliest spandex, Shoreditch stalwart Disco Yoga has launched in Peckham. And if you haven’t got sequins and spandex, don’t worry, before you embark on the disco-themed yoga flow class, there’s a glitter station to ensure you shimmer when you shimmy. Sessions are accompanied by a live DJ spinning disco classics and you get a disco-themed superfood cocktail for after. GoodGym trainer Joel Wilkes (GoodGym being the group who run around London and complete tasks that benefit the community along the way) is hosting free fitness sessions in Kennington this month. The hour-long sessions are open to all, and don’t worry if you don’t think you can run far or fast enough, sessions focus on drills, running form and strength and conditioning, meaning they’re beneficial for every ability.

Start with an hour of soulful Vinyasa Flow with instructor Sanchia Legister (she’s very cool) and fill your boots with an awesome-sounding vegan brunch menu including fluffy mini pancakes, Mexican-inspired sweetcorn fritters, mushrooms and tomato on sourdough, smashed avocado.… and it goes on. If you go down to the woods today… you’ll find loads of runners chasing around with head torches on. Our favourite trail race organiser Maverick Race have got a new Dark Series of nighttime trail runs with short (around 6k) middle (around 10k) and long (around 15k) options. Double the fun. Em’s doing the Sussex one this weekend and I’m (Charlotte) doing Surrey on the 25th. It’s going to be smashing, you should sign up too – Surrey’s sold out but there are still places for Surrey and Hampshire.

If you like your workouts with a side dose of sunrise and city views, then this is for you. The Sky Garden – which is a bit like a massive greenhouse on the 36th floor of the walkie talkie building – has been home to early morning yoga classes for a while now, but they’ve just announced new 45-minute HIIT sessions. Two instructors will take you through a high-intensity workout as London wakes up below, and when the session gets tough, grit your teeth and think of the gram – you’re guaranteed epic photos after, the views are amazing. Sessions fill up fast so get in there quick smart.

Another fun and informative tour from Secret London Runs, London’s Pride covers 7km through the city streets telling you tales of secret love, public punishment and pointing out key places in queer history. Plus some of your ticket cost is donated to the Albert Kennedy Trust, supporting homeless LGBT young people. Nice one.

Run in the Dark

Taking place in Battersea, Manchester, Dublin, Cork and Belfast simultaneously (well, Cork starts an hour later but hey ho) test yourself over 5k and 10k distances with these night time races supporting The Mark Pollock Trust for spinal cord injury. Best thing about night races? No one can see quite how red your face is and it’s perfectly acceptable to wear neon faceprint and glow-in-the dark clothing should you wish.

Fitness Instagrammers Twice the Health are running around Australia at the moment – they’ve just done 50k along the Great Ocean Road. When they’re back they’re running round Chelsea instead, leading 5km group runs from the Active in Style store. Looking for next year’s big challenge? London Tri entries have just opened. It’s a big one but it’s a fun one – and if it’s your first, you’ve got plenty of time to train. I’m doing it with my mum to celebrate her 70th birthday! Options include Olympic, Sprint and Super Sprint distances, individual or relay. Looks like you also get an event t-shirt, I’ve not had one of those at London Tri before.

GirlGains is a female fitness movement created by fitness vloggers and Instagrammers Zanna van Dijk, Tally Rye and Victoria Spence (search the hashtag on Insta and you’ll get more of an idea). There are now GirlGains events taking place across the UK and this next one in Kingston involves a 45-minute resistance workout followed by some healthy snacks, a Q&A about mindfulness with Zanna and some guided meditation.

This will book out, sign up! Soft drink Zeo are putting on monthly free fitness events and November’s is looking brilliant. It’s a VOGA class – that’s vogueing yoga, a kind of dance/yoga fusion inspired by Madonna – in God’s Own Junkyard. GOJ is an incredible venue, full of neon signs created by lighting artist Chris Bracey.

Ps, if you don’t get on this, Good Yoga Life have weekly Saturday sessions at God’s Own and they’re great. They cost £12.

World Aids Day Red Run 5k/10k

This annual run through Vicky Park helps raise funds for HIV services across the UK. Dame Barbara Windsor is opening the race this year and there’s loads of cool entertainment – including DJs from Horse Meat Disco, drag girl band Denim, and an after-party in a giant heated teepee at the People’s Park Tavern – to make sure it’s as fun as it is valuable to the 38 charities its supporting. Get your name down.

If you’re a runner and you want to give something back by encouraging others to hit their targets, then the Hackney Half, held in Hackney (surprisingly) on 20 May 2018, is looking for pacers. They need runners of all different speeds and abilities to run the course at specified paces. There’s stiff competition to be a pacer at this race apparently, so entries are only open until the end of the month. You’ll get a free entry tot his race and a future Virgin Sport event, a medal and some kit.

To be honest, we find it hard not to giggle nervously when things get spiritual, but if you really want to relax your mind and body this two-hour session is ideal. Yin yoga, live music to accompany your practice and some poetry designed to leave your feel revitalised. Just no laughing at the back.
